This model was originally intended for a modeling competition which, I did submit it to and won with.

However there was much more I wanted to do with the design so I have continued to work on it and research creator, history, and use of the microscope to try to make it as detailed and as accurate as possible. The Cuff-type Microscope was an innovation on early microscope design making microscopy much easier and more accessible.

Other microscope designs were much smaller and beautifully created in their own right but the design had much to be desired when it came to ease of use. Such as when it came to focusing the scope or placing large objects under the scope and the legs would interfere. The inventor John Cuff along with Henry Baker came up with this new design to solve those problems. In researching this microscope I managed to track down the original manual that came with it on Archive.org
